Interim and Management consultants – What’s the difference?
Sometimes these terms are used synonymously, but that’s certainly not the way we view them. An increasing number of organisations are appreciating the practical value of the Interim Approach over traditional Management Consultancy.
The Management Consultant model… well, that’s not us
Management Consultants tend to recommend solutions but then leave it to the client to implement them. They’re often trained in theoretical techniques and don’t have as much hands on experience as Interim Managers. MC’s are more expensive and tend to work across a number of projects at the same time. Their role is often to hold discussions and guide an executive team, but not to implement. MC’s generally work for a client for only a few days per month.
The advantages of Interim Management
Unlike Management Consultancy, our Interim assesses the situation, recommends one or more practical solutions and, after agreement with the client; then implements their project or programme as an integral part of the assignment. Real world deliverables mean that specific business challenge(s) get practically addressed and resolved – something which can’t be achieved through the traditional, analytical consulting role. Our team are chosen for their practical experience and skills, working with our client’s exec’s to chart new direction and deliver real bottom line value. Our Interim Managers typically work on one assignment at a time, on a full time basis, often with a pre-determined Term and clear budget.
